Polk County Conservation‘s mission to provide the citizens of Polk County with quality outdoor recreation is expanding. They are excited to announce their management and the grand opening of the Lauridsen Skatepark on May 7, 2021. The 88,000 square feet attraction will showcase Olympic caliber park and street courses. Thrilling features include a promenade, flow bowl, amoeba pool, snake run, and a skateable art piece entitled WOW. Designed and constructed by California Skateparks, the Lauridsen Skatepark is poised to host local, regional, national, and Olympic qualifying events beginning in the spring of 2021.
The skatepark is located in downtown Des Moines along the Principal Riverwalk and Des Moines River, which is also the future site of a whitewater course and part of a major river revitalization project by Central Iowa Water Trails. Both the skatepark and the water trails initiative are catalysts to bring top notch outdoor recreation to Des Moines. We are proud to be a part of this effort, along with the partnership of Subsect, Skate DSM, Catch DSM, and others.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:
Construction crews have left the job site for the winter months, but will return in March. It will take approximately two more months to complete the skatepark and have it ready to open by May 22nd. Please allow crews to finish the construction so it will be ready to open by the grand opening date. We know you are all as stoked as we are to start skating, but we are asking to please hold tight a little bit longer.
