The Skatepark Cabinet, in collaboration with the City of Des Moines, envision creating a world-class skatepark in central Des Moines, intended to provide safe, fun and challenging opportunities for skateboarders and spectators alike.
The skatepark plan was designed by renowned skateboarders Lance Mountain and Colby Carter of California Skateparks. Features include:
- 65,000 square feet of skate-able terrain, making it one of the largest open parks in the nation
- A two-tiered, 300 foot downhill snake-run incorporating the organic nature of real street spots that include banks, stairs, rails, curbs and ledges
- Skate bowls and pools that accommodate elements for both beginning through advanced and professional level users; a four-leaf clover type bowl with depths ranging from 3 feet to 9 feet
- A lower plaza that includes a pedestrian walkway and shaded bench seating adjacent to the river to encourage both viewing and socializing
Great care has been taken to ensure the skatepark will enhance the area and be an attractive extension of the Principal Riverwalk.
